IRCTC Provides e-catering facility at 45 railway stations

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to launch a "Station based e-catering" to provide meals of passengers choice. It is going to start at 45 railway stations in our country. This facility may increase to 1,144 trains running across the country in following phases. Allahabad, Kanpur Central, Agra Cantt and Gwalior are included in the first phase.

By visiting www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or by calling at toll free number 1800-1034-139 or by sending SMS Meal to 139, Passengers can order their food and have an option to enjoy different variety of food items listed on the menu of the website. The meals will be delivered to the passenger at the railway station on the way to journey. Travellers need to provide their PNR number at the time of booking the meals.

IRCTC will soon float expressions of interest (EOIs) to ensure participation of experienced professionals and reputed food chains like KFC, McDonald's, Haldirams, Bikanerwala, Niruala's, Sagar Ratna, Wangs Kitchen, Sarvana Bhavan, Subway, Domino's, Pizza Hut and Kelloggs.

NCR official Bijay kumar said that " The Travellers need to have a phone for ordering the meals and the railway also providing an option of ordering through messaging app like WhatsApp. After receiving the meals, passengers have an option of making payment online or through cash on delivery mode".

"Delivery of food will be made through authorised persons only. IRCTC has connected with leading food chains of the country to make sure delivery of quality food to the passengers. The main moto is to make available of wide range of food items", Bijay Kumar added.

IRCTC also providing an option to cancel the booked meals within a given period of time. If the traveller makes online payment for the food, then the amount will be refunded after deducting the cancelation charges.

The e-catering facility will be extended to other stations in the country after determining the response of these 45 railway stations. The stations which will have the facility are Pune, New Delhi, Howrah, Chennai Central, Mumbai Central, Delhi, Bangalore, Patna, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Madurai, Amritsar, Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kanpur Central, Allahabad, Chandigarh, Gorakhpur, Sealdah, Vadodara, New Jalpaiguri, Vishakhapatnam, Mughalsarai, Varanasi, Jaipur, Bilaspur, Kharagpur, Anand Vihar, Nizamuddin, Ludhiana, Nagpur, Agra Cantt, Gwalior, Jhansi, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Secunderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Chennai Egmore, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrisur, Yasvantpur, and Guwahati.
